The Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital is expanding with a $231 million investment project, according to a news release on Nov. 21.
The expansion will include a build-out of one of the existing towers to include new medical and surgical beds, new universal beds, and a new neonatal intensive care unit, the release said. Additionally, the project is expected to expand the capacity of the hospital’s catheterization lab and “key outpatient areas” to include emergency department rooms, operating rooms, endoscopy suites, CT and X-ray capabilities, and parking. No start date for the project has been set, a Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital representative said on Nov. 21.
The expansion is the latest in a series of projects, including a $10 million operating room expansion, which is expected to be complete in spring 2023, as well as a five-story, 135,000-square-foot medical office building, which is scheduled to be complete in early 2023.
Malisha Patel, senior vice president and CEO of Memorial Hermann Sugar Land and Southwest Hospitals, said in the news release the expansion is a necessary step in meeting the needs of an expanding Fort Bend County, which has a population of 858,527 residents, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. The county is expected to reach 1 million residents by 2027, the release said.
“Our ultimate goal is to ensure we can continue providing the highest-quality and most comprehensive care in the heart of Fort Bend County for all those who need us, for many years to come,” Patel said.
