Never before, certainly not in recent memory, has the nation felt a top-to-bottom, global supply chain crisis. Christmas presents are at risk; food and essentials are too sparse and too expensive; and, contractors cannot access goods like lumber, plastics, and even oil. The world’s top nine ports sit in countries still struggling to vaccinate their populations, seven of those in China, while at the same time, infrastructure is over capacity and aged, truck drivers are hard to find, and US consumption is skyrocketing, creating unprecedented demand.
The discomfort is real and unsettling, but in any crisis, there is opportunity.
Fort Bend County, located in the Houston metro, is ideally located to break through the supply chain challenges and open markets to companies looking for a streamlined distribution initiative. The City of Rosenberg, in Fort Bend County, is approximately 45 minutes from Port Freeport, a deep-water port which can accommodate large ships passing through the Panama Canal. A direct connection to the port via Highway 36A, Rosenberg is home to three Class I rail lines.
Additionally, Rosenberg and the surrounding communities have large tracts of land along Highway 36A, and other major commerce corridors with rail access that are strategically located to support large scale warehousing and distribution centers. Two potential intermodal sites sit in west Fort Bend County, which can accommodate a variety of modal options as well.
Maybe most importantly, Fort Bend County’s talent pipeline is buoyed by such programs as Texas State Technical College and the University of Houston, which is home to a supply chain management program through the College of Technology. Both TSTC and UH Sugar Land are located in Fort Bend, as is Wharton County Junior College and Houston Community College.
Those Who Know, Know!
The proof is in the pudding, as they say. Companies such as Dollar Tree, Aldi, Biotics Research, and Frito Lay all call Rosenberg home, and brands such as Niagara Water, Amazon, Ben K Keith Foods, Best Buy, and others across the county see the benefits of our access to markets and exceptionally trained workforce.
Location to ports, access to workforce, and available land are the elixir to break through the supply chain challenges, all here, in Fort Bend County. Learn more at www.fortbendcounty.com.
